The 17th Panhellenic Symposium on Catalysis, hosted by the Heterogeneous Catalysis Laboratory of the University of Cyprus, took place in Paphos, Cyprus, from October 8th to 10th, 2024, bringing together around 100 participants. Over three days, attendees had the opportunity to step away from their daily duties and engage in valuable discussions and collaborations on catalysis. This symposium also served as a special occasion to celebrate the retirement of Prof. Angelos M. Efstathiou and Prof. Angeliki A. Lemonidou, marking their significant contributions to the field and the Hellenic Catalysis Society.
The program included a plenary lecture by the esteemed Prof. Paolo Fornasiero, seven keynote lectures by young scientists, both from academia and industry, and 37 oral presentations. In addition, 35 posters were displayed throughout the whole duration of the symposium. A unique aspect of this symposium was the use of the English language for the first time, which was warmly welcomed by the community, revealing the high level of the upcoming Greek catalysis scientists. The best poster awards added a competitive spirit, and all participants enjoyed a comfortable stay at the prestigious Aliathon Resort, which also hosted the conference. On the second day, we all had a private boat trip along the scenic Akamas Peninsula and the Blue Lagoon coast, followed by traditional fish meze in the Latsi area.
The friendly atmosphere was evident in the smiles of participants, as shown in the photos below! We are already looking forward to the 18th Panhellenic Symposium on Catalysis, which, as announced, will be held in the beautiful city of Kozani!
See you all soon!!!
